Chandigarh, Oct. 20 -- Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday said his government has transferred the case involving anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), responding to a demand from his family.

Mann said the state government stood firmly with Jhota's family and would take stringent measures to protect the youth from drugs.

"We stand firmly with Parvinder Singh Jhota's father and his family at all times as they fight against drugs. Respecting the family's demand, we are handing over this case to the CBI. Our fight against drug traffickers is a battle to the finish," the chief minister said.

Senior AAP leader and Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia described the decision as a major step, saying the government would continue its campaign to make Punjab drug-free.

Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the state's anti-drug campaign, Yudh Nashean Virudh, would continue without interruption. He added that Punjab Police had earlier taken strict action against those accused in the case.

In a post on X, Cheema said protecting the state's youth from drugs remained the government's highest priority.

The leaders reiterated the government's commitment to acting against drug traffickers and safeguarding the future of Punjab's younger generations.
