Jalpaiguri, Sept. 9 -- Jalpaiguri Sadar Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Moin Ahmed has issued a seven-day notice to remove a structure allegedly built on government land on Station Road and used as a party office by former Youth Trinamool Congress president and former Jalpaiguri Municipality chairman Saikat Chatterjee.
Officials of the sub-divisional administration, accompanied by police, served the notice at 9 pm on Tuesday, sparking discussion. According to sources, proceedings concern Amit Saha, from K.G. Saha Lane in Ward 19 of Jalpaiguri Municipality. Based on a report by the Sadar Block Land and Land Reforms Office (BL&LRO), proceedings were initiated against him under the West Bengal Government Land (Regulation of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1962.
The notice states that a structure was constructed on government land at Kharija mouza, JL No. 7, Sheet No. 121, with 1.5 decimals allegedly under unauthorised occupation.
On directions of the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court, the administration issued a show-cause notice to Saha. His reply was unsatisfactory, sources said.
Saha was directed to vacate the land within seven days and hand over possession to the Sadar BL&LRO and Jalpaiguri Municipality's Executive Officer. Failure to comply could lead to forcible recovery with police assistance.
