New Delhi, Oct. 8 -- BJP veteran Murli Manohar Joshi on Thursday said a government elected by the people should not perish if elections are fair, governments are accountable and the bureaucracy remains transparent.
The former Union minister also said the Supreme Court should intervene if the Constitution is violated.
Joshi made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 21st FICCI Higher Education Summit here.
Asked about the opposition's demand for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Joshi said the "government of the people, for the people and by the people" would not perish provided elections were fair and the government accountable.
He said the opposition was "responsive and responsible" and had a clear alternative programme, stressing that democratic processes must operate within the Constitution.
"If the Constitution is violated, then the Supreme Court should look into it," he said.
