Balurgha, Oct. 9 -- Ten days after a raid by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), 29-year-old Mojibur Rahman, a resident of Mundehar (Kushkari area) in the Banshihari block of South Dinajpur, was arrested late Thursday night from a hideout in Bihar following a joint effort involving local police and Central investigators.

According to police and investigating agency sources, Mojibur was evading authorities for nearly nine months since January 2, when a police team first raided his residence following reports of his alleged links with the Assam module of the banned terror outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). A case was also registered against him by the Assam Special Task Force (STF) and he faces 15 cases in total.

Following a second raid conducted at his house on September 29 by a four-member NIA team alongside Banshihari Police Station officers, intelligence tracking was intensified. A special team from the Gangarampur Sub-Divisional Police tracked Mojibur to his secret hideout in Bihar, leading to his apprehension. Officers from the NIA subsequently arrested him and took him into custody to present him before the Gangarampur Sub-Divisional Court on Friday.

Despite the arrest, Mojibur's family refuted the charges. His father, Mijanur Rahman, who appeared at the NIA office in Kolkata on October 1, claimed: "My son is innocent and was preparing for UPSC examinations after completing a Bachelor of Science degree."

Mijanur further stated that family members located Mojibur in Bihar and urged him to surrender to the authorities.

Investigating officers are currently interrogating Mojibur to uncover the full extent of his network, identify possible associates and evaluate his alleged connections to the militant outfit.
