Chandigarh, Oct. 11 -- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday said India was moving rapidly towards becoming a developed nation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, with the country's global standing improving and its youth getting opportunities to realise their potential.
Saini made the remarks while interacting with media persons after offering prayers at the Mata Mansa Devi Temple on the first day of Ashwin Navratri.
He attributed the country's development to the effective implementation of policies and accused the Congress of failing to advance India during its long tenure in power. He alleged that the Congress and the INDIA bloc were attempting to mislead young people through baseless allegations, adding that people were increasingly aware of the Opposition's approach.
The chief minister said the Haryana government was committed to the welfare of economically weaker sections and balanced development. He maintained that eligible beneficiaries should receive the benefits of government schemes and young people should get equal opportunities based on merit.
Highlighting recruitment reforms, Saini said government jobs in Haryana were being awarded on merit without "kharchi-parchi" (bribes or political recommendations). He alleged that nepotism and corruption had characterised recruitment under previous Congress governments.
On law and order, he said ensuring public safety remained a priority and warned that anyone attempting to intimidate citizens would face action under the law.
