New Delhi, Oct. 12 -- The Union Health Ministry has asked states and Union Territories to ensure that clinical establishments prominently display charges for services and facilities to help patients understand treatment costs and avoid billing disputes. In a letter to chief secretaries, Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava sought a review of compliance with existing rules and urged authorities to ensure that rates are clearly visible and accessible.

Under the Clinical Establishments Act, 2010, and the 2012 rules, facilities in areas covered by the law must display service rates in both the local language and English. Other states and UTs follow their respective regulatory frameworks.

The ministry has also asked authorities to encourage the display of package prices for international patients visiting India on medical or Ayush visas. Clear pricing can help foreign patients make informed choices and reduce billing-related grievances. Srivastava requested chief secretaries to issue advisories and ensure compliance through the relevant authorities.
