New Delhi, Oct. 20 -- Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka on Tuesday approached the Delhi High Court seeking an urgent hearing against the extension of their judicial custody, alleging violations of due process and their constitutional right to liberty.

The leaders sought a night hearing even as the high court remains closed this week for the Dussehra vacation.

A newly appointed Special Executive Magistrate at Mandir Marg police station on Monday extended their judicial remand by two days.

They were arrested on October 13 after allegedly climbing a locked gate to enter Jantar Mantar, which had been denotified as a designated

protest site, and were initially remanded to five days of judicial custody.

CJP legal affairs head Ratna Singh said on X that the party had requested urgent intervention.

"Saurav and Ashutosh should not spend a single minute behind bars," she said, alleging that political considerations were affecting their liberty.

In their petition, the leaders challenged the magistrate's order under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, arguing that required sureties had been submitted repeatedly but not accepted or verified.

They contended that the remand was unlawful and violated Article 21 of the Constitution. Delhi Police alleged that the protesters trespassed through private premises and obstructed officers performing their duties.

The demonstrators had also raised slogans against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
