Jalpaiguri, July 16 -- The mystery surrounding the death of a woman in the Moraghat forest of Gairkata under Banarhat Police Station deepened after the body of her missing husband was recovered from the same forest less than 24 hours later. Police suspect the case to be one of murder followed by suicide, though investigations are still underway.

According to local sources, Chumki Roy had been facing prolonged marital discord with her husband, Bimal Roy.

The couple reportedly had a heated argument on Wednesday morning over allegations of an extramarital affair, following which Chumki left their home. Residents later claimed they had seen the couple arguing near the Moraghat forest.

Later that evening, Chumki's bloodied body was recovered beside a roadside inside the forest, while Bimal went missing.

Suspicion intensified after investigators came across a voice message allegedly sent by Bimal to his son, in which he reportedly confessed to killing his wife. Acting on the lead, Banarhat Police launched a search operation.

On Thursday morning, Bimal's body was recovered from the same forest. Preliminary investigation suggests that he allegedly murdered his wife before dying by suicide

by hanging.
