New Delhi, Oct. 6 -- Ahmedabad; Adani Power and Bhutan's state-owned Druk Green Power Corp. Ltd. (DGPC) on Tuesday signed a Shareholders Agreement for developing the 770 MW Chamkharchhu-I Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan.
The project is the second major hydropower collaboration between the partners after the 570 MW Wangchhu Hydroelectric Project agreement signed in September 2025. It is part of the broader 5,000 MW hydropower development MoU signed between Adani Group and DGPC in May 2025.
Located in Zhemgang District, the peaking run-of-river project will be developed under the BOOT model through a 49:51 equity partnership between Adani Power and DGPC, with a 30-year concession from COD. Construction is expected to begin in the first half of 2027, with commissioning targeted six years after groundbreaking.
The project will strengthen Bhutan's energy security and facilitate surplus clean power exports to India, supporting regional energy cooperation.
