New Delhi, Sept. 7 -- The government has reduced the LPG refill booking gap for rural consumers from 45 days to 25 days, bringing it in line with the rule for urban households, Union Minister Suresh Gopi said on Monday. The Petroleum Ministry, in a September 7 letter to Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), directed the oil marketing companies (OMCs) to implement the revised interval with immediate effect. Gopi, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Tourism, said the earlier 25-day urban and 45-day rural limits had been introduced in March as a temporary demand-management measure amid LPG supply pressures linked to the Middle East conflict. The ministry said supplies have since improved and refill backlogs have fallen considerably. "Now, all domestic LPG consumers, regardless of urban or rural, can book refills at an interval of 25 days," Gopi said in a Facebook post.
