Chandigarh, Sept. 15 -- The Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday slammed the Congress, accusing it of exploiting "tragedies" for political gains while refusing to answer questions about its own record.
Punjab has not forgotten the "1984 Sikh massacre", the pain of which continues to be carried by families across generations, and questioned why Congress leaders still avoid accountability on the issue, it said.
The ruling party lashed out at the Opposition Congress after it held a protest against Finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema, demanding his removal over the alleged suicide of a Dalit man in Sangrur.
Gulzar Singh, who hailed from Dirba in Sangrur district, died on September 7 after allegedly consuming poison. His family alleged that he was harassed and subjected to casteist slurs for questioning Cheema about the supply of drugs in his area at an event in Dirba.
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa on Tuesday also joined the Congress leaders and workers in a protest in Chandigarh demanding the immediate arrest of Cheema and a fair, independent investigation into the death of Gulzar Singh of Toor Banzara village in Sangrur.
