New Delhi, Sept. 8 -- The Commerce Ministry has facilitated the export of unique agricultural products from the Northeast such as Tezpur Litchi and Khasi Mandarin to over 15 international destinations like the US & UK in the
last four fiscals, helping farmers and exporters access new markets, an official said on Tuesday.
The ministry's measures have opened overseas markets for a range of GI-tagged and other agricultural products from the region, including Joha Rice, Tezpur Litchi, Khasi Mandarin, Assam Lemon, Karbi Anglong Ginger and Dalle Khursani. Other products which have reached different countries included organic black and green tea, natural honey, ginger, pineapple, anthurium flowers and fresh fruits and vegetables, the official said.
These goods have reached over 15 international destinations, including the US, the UK, Italy, Vietnam, Singapore, Dubai (UAE), Taiwan, Bangladesh, Solomon Islands, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and London.
The ministry's arm Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has organised 260 capacity-building programmes across the Northeast during the period, benefiting 2,605 stakeholders.
APEDA has also facilitated the establishment of packhouses, laboratories, Centres of Excellence, Trade Facilitation Centres, irradiation facilities, Vapour Heat Treatment (VHT) facilities, and Centres for Perishable Cargo at airports.
