Proton posts best monthly sales in 16 years as EVs, exports surge
SUBANG JAYA, Sept. 3 -- Proton sold more cars to Malaysian buyers in August than in any other month in its history, while total group sales reached 22,632 units - its strongest monthly performance since January 2010.
Sales were 22.7 per cent higher than in July, driven by steady demand for its petrol models, record electric vehicle deliveries and stronger exports.
For the first eight months of 2026, Proton sold 141,421 vehicles, up 40.2 per cent from the same period last year.
The carmaker estimates it captured 27.9 per cent of all new cars sold in Malaysia in August, lifting its share for the year so far to 25.6 per cent.
