KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 -- Political activist Mohd Hisyamuddin Ghazali, better known as Syam Ghaz, has been appointed director-general of the Community Communications Department (J-KPM), according to a Facebook post by Perpaduan Madani Kedah.

The appointment comes after Datuk Ismail Yusop announced the end of his tenure at the department, saying he would soon take on a new assignment.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Ismail said it was his final day as J-KOM director-general after more than a year in the role, adding that he would continue serving "religion, race and country" in a new capacity.

Syam succeeds Ismail, who was appointed on January 15 last year following the departure of Mohd Khairuddin Othman.
