Not just a camera: Anthony Loke explains the 'ecosystem' behind AwAS maintenance costs
KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 -- Transport Minister Anthony Loke has corrected claims regarding the maintenance costs of the Automated Awareness Safety System (AwAS), clarifying that the actual annual cost for a single camera unit is approximately RM112,800 and not the RM337,000 figure frequently cited.
In a written parliamentary reply yesterday, Loke explained that the RM112,800 figure covers essential preventive maintenance, repairs, and periodic calibration.
He said that the higher, commonly referenced total actually reflects the system's entire operational ecosystem rather than the maintenance of individual cameras.
