KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 28 -- A cabin crew member previously charged with drink-driving over a fatal collision that killed one person and injured another has now been charged with murder.

Iman Nafiz Fong Sabirin, 26, nodded to indicate he understood the charge after it was read out before Magistrate MS Arunjothi. No plea was recorded as murder trials fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court, FMT reported.

He is accused of murdering 29-year-old Faris Irfan Fazli along Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar, heading towards Jalan Parlimen, at 4.09am on October 24.

The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty or between 30 and 40 years' imprisonment and at least 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
