SINGAPORE, Sept. 1 -- A 25-year-old man has been charged with murder after allegedly slashing another man's neck with a chopper in Tuas South Avenue 9.

The Straits Times reported that Muruganathan Kathirvel, an Indian national, was charged on August 31 over the death of 29-year-old Raj Maheshkumar on August 29.

Court documents did not state how the two men knew each other.

Singapore police said they received a call for assistance at about 10.10pm on August 29, after which officers found the victim lying motionless on the road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedic.

Muruganathan appeared in court via video link wearing a red polo shirt.
