SINGAPORE, Sept. 10 -- Singapore's Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) will appeal against the reduced charge and sentence imposed on a man who assaulted a private-hire driver, saying the punishment was "manifestly inadequate".

CNA reported that AGC filed two notices of appeal to the High Court after British citizen and Singapore permanent resident Oruche Morgan Fidelis, 23, was sentenced to a five-day short detention order and 100 hours of community service.

Fidelis had initially faced a charge of voluntarily causing hurt resulting in grievous hurt, but District Judge John Ng amended it to assault following the trial and convicted him on the lesser charge.
