PATNA, Aug. 8 -- Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) national working president Tejashwi Yadav on Friday met Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar and demanded action against Siwan Superintendent of Police (SP) and other senior officials over the alleged use of an AK-47 assault rifle during a student protest in the district on July 25. A delegation led by Yadav, who is the Leader of Opposition in the assembly, also demanded that the BJP-led NDA government make it clear who ordered the use of such a rifle against the protesting students. "The AK-47 could have been used against the protesters only on the orders of either chief minister Samrat Choudhary or Union home minister Amit Shah. Both are maintaining a stoic silence over the issue and have not said anything. Action must be taken against the concerned SP and other senior officials," the RJD leader told reporters after meeting the DGP. The delegation also submitted a memorandum raising several questions about the firing during the student protest in Siwan. It questioned why the police did not follow the 'graded response action plan' prescribed under the protocol for crowd and protest control. The delegation also demanded a judicial probe into the alleged police atrocities during student protests across Bihar from July 22 to 25 over the alleged NEET paper leak. Senior RJD leaders, including MLC Abdul Bari Siddiqui, former MLA Bhola Yadav and state president Mangani Lal Mandal, were among those who accompanied Tejashwi Yadav to meet the Bihar DGP. Replying to another query as to whether he had demanded action against the Siwan SP from the DGP, Yadav replied, "Sab par action hona chahiye" (Action should be taken against everyone involved in the use of the AK-47 on protesting students), including the SP. The opposition leader said top INDIA bloc leaders including leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had raised the use of AK-47 on protestors in Siwan in Parliament. "I thank Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav for raising this issue in Parliament," he said. Yadav said he would like to invite the two leaders to come and meet the students who suffered injuries in police action during the protests on July 25....
