Rath Yatra: Police tighten security; ADG directs full force deployment
RANCHI, July 6 -- Additional director general (ADG), CID, Manoj Kaushik, also Zonal IG Ranchi, chaired a high-level security meet on Sunday to finalise strategies for the upcoming Jagannathpur fair and Rath Yatra.
The review session brought top police leadership together with temple committee representatives to map out safety protocols for the highly anticipated religious procession, which draws thousands of devotees to the region.
Kaushik issued definitive orders to maximise field visibility and ensure adequate police personnel are deployed throughout the fairgrounds.
"Directives were issued to ensure the deployment of adequate police personnel during the fair, exercise vigilance in sensitive and crowded areas, physically verify the procession and Rath Yatra routes, and monitor social media and other digital platforms. Additionally, instructions were given regarding CCTV surveillance during the event, the establishment of a control room, parking facilities, traffic diversions, exit routes for fire and emergency situations, and the safety of women and children," a press statement issued by police said.
With barely weeks left before the month-long Shrawani Mela, the Deoghar administration has intensified preparations, rolling out major pilgrim-centric initiatives aimed at ensuring safe, smooth and hassle-free darshan for millions of devotees expected to visit Baba Baidyanath Dham.
The decisions were finalised during a high-level review meeting on Saturday chaired by Deoghar deputy commissioner-cum-district magistrate Saurabh Bhuvaniya, attended by senior police officials, temple administration, civic authorities and representatives of priest bodies.
Among the most significant decisions is the introduction of a permanent external Arghya (water offering) system, enabling devotees to offer holy water throughout the year without entering the temple's inner sanctum. The facility is expected to especially benefit elderly, differently-abled and medically unfit pilgrims by reducing long waiting hours and congestion inside the shrine.
"The administration's highest priority is to ensure safe, orderly and convenient darshan while preserving the sanctity of Baba Baidyanath Temple," Bhuvaniya said.
In another major move, mobile phones will be completely banned inside the temple....
