PATNA, Sept. 12 -- The Bihar government has substantially increased the monthly stipend of postgraduate medical and dental students in government institutions, with the revised rates effective from January 1, 2026, according to a press release issued by the health department on Friday. Under the revised structure, first-year PG students will receive Rs.92,800 a month, while those in the second and third years will get Rs.1,02,000 and Rs.1,12,200, respectively. The earlier monthly stipends were Rs.82,000 for first-year students, Rs.90,200 for second-year students and Rs.99,220 for third-year students. The increase is aimed at providing greater financial support to PG students during their training and encouraging the development of specialist medical manpower in the state. Health minister Nishant said strengthening medical education and healthcare services remained a priority for the government. "PG students are future specialist doctors and will play an important role in the state's healthcare system. The increase in stipend will encourage them and help create a better environment for medical education," he said. The government's focus was not merely on increasing the number of medical institutions, but also on creating a pool of specialists capable of providing quality healthcare to people, Nishant said.
