NEW DELHI, Aug. 3 -- Member of Parliament from Bihar's Purnea, Pappu Yadav, was targeted inside his house in New Delhi's Pandara Road where he was holding a press conference as a man hurled a shoe at him. Yadav alleged that another person also tried to attack him with a knife. A scuffle broke out between Yadav's supporters and two men who had attempted to attack Yadav. Yadav on Friday had dressed in saffron as a "saint" and protested against the theft of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya by enacting the theft at the Parliament. Opposition MPs including Rahul Gandhi joined him in the "skit", demanding a discussion in the House. On Saturday, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj and others went to DCP (New Delhi) Sachin Sharma's office with a complaint against Yadav for hurting "sanatan culture" and mocking saints. On Sunday, Yadav was holding a press conference about the Ram temple donation theft matter when a man came in the crowd where supporters and media persons were standing. Police said he hurled a shoe towards Yadav. Police said the accused, Sumit, a resident of UP's Bulandshahr, was overpowered and hit by Yadav's supporters while another accused, Happy Sharma, was also held. Police said Yadav's supporters gave a knife and said it was recovered from Sumit's pocket. Police are verifying all allegations. Yadav told media " That man had come to kill me with a knife. There is a a conspiracy to kill me. Every day, some religious figures are threatening me and saying "Burn him, we will give Rs.51 lakh." In a video, Yadav is seen talking when the accused interrupts him and later hurls a shoe which hit Yadav in the leg. Yadav's media convenor, Jaid Khan, who was present at the spot, alleged that the attack escalated after the shoe was thrown. "They first took off a shoe and threw it. When the knife was drawn to attack, our supporters and associates tried to restrain the assailant. I stepped forward and positioned myself between the attacker and Yadav, and I was beaten severely as a result. We knew there were threats and had alerted the police in advance about threats to the MP. I personally met the DCP this morning and filed a formal complaint stating that the MP was arriving today and has been receiving constant threats on social media. Despite knowing all this, they deployed only three or four police personnel here," he alleged. Meanwhile, one of the accused, Happy, later told media "We had seen in the news that Yadav was insulting saints. We underwent a security check. We were not carrying anything, so we were allowed to enter. A press conference was in progress. We simply said to him, "Pappu Yadav ji, you are a respected public representative, but you are insulting our sadhus and saints and mocking their saffron robes..." However, his supporters started beating us...The crowd attacked us brutally. I managed to come out but my friend could not...His name is Sumit...He was taken to the police station...We did not have any knife. Yes, the slippers were thrown after they assaulted us...We will continue to do this, if our sadhus are disrespected..."...
