Jaipur, June 24 -- The Orthopaedics Unit-II of SMS Medical College and Hospital, Jaipur, performed 11 joint replacement surgeries in a single day and in a single sitting, hospital authorities said on Tuesday. The procedures included eight Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgeries and three Total Hip Replacement (THR) operations. Officials said all surgeries were completed successfully and all patients remained stable and in satisfactory condition after the procedures. Notably, all patients received treatment free of cost under the Chief Minister Ayushman Arogya Yojana. The hospital authorities said high-quality implants were used in all the surgeries to ensure better long-term outcomes. The feat was achieved under the leadership of Dr Pankaj Jain, unit head and senior professor, Orthopaedics Unit-II. The surgical team comprised Dr Rajkumar Harshwal (professor), Dr Amit Jain (professor), Dr Hira Lal Dhawan (associate professor), Dr Mukesh Aswal (assistant professor) and Dr Brijesh Sankhla (senior specialist), along with resident doctors, nursing staff and operation theatre personnel of Unit-II. The hospital also credited the anaesthesia department for its role in the success of the surgeries. The anaesthesia team, led by Dr Srifal Meena, senior professor, along with Dr Mamta Khandelwal, Dr B C Jain and their team, ensured that all procedures were conducted safely and efficiently. Hospital officials described the achievement as a reflection of SMS Medical College's clinical excellence, advanced infrastructure and multidisciplinary teamwork. They said it demonstrated that government healthcare institutions are capable of providing world-class joint replacement services using modern technology, quality implants and specialist medical teams.
