Mussoorie, Aug. 29 -- India Meteorological Centre, Dehradun, has issued an orange alert for parts of Uttarakhand, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall along with very intense to extremely intense spells on August 31 and September 1, while a yellow alert has been sounded for August 29 and 30. The warning comes as light to moderate rainfall continued across the state during the past 24 hours, with isolated areas witnessing heavy showers. A sudden rise in the water level of the Hunda stream damaged agricultural land in Panjyala village of Uttarkashi district on Thursday evening, officials said. Following information from local residents, an administrative team comprising the Dunda tehsildar and the Matli revenue sub-inspector reached the spot to inspect the affected area and assess the damage. No loss of human life or livestock was reported, officials said, adding that an assessment of the damage to agricultural land was underway. Meanwhile, 13 roads across Uttarakhand remained blocked due to landslides and boulder falls until Friday evening. These included six village roads in Chamoli, three roads in Tehri, two in Dehradun and one each in Pauri and Pithoragarh districts. Road-clearing operations were underway at all affected locations, officials said. In Chamoli, work was in progress to reopen the Chooragad-Sutol Kanol village road, which was blocked. The state recorded 5.9 mm of rainfall against a normal of 9.8 mm during the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Friday, a deficit of 40%. Bageshwar and Chamoli recorded surplus rainfall, receiving 12.6 mm, or 138% above normal, and 12.2 mm, or 76% above normal, respectively.
