Mussoorie, July 14 -- Light to heavy rainfall was reported at isolated places across Uttarakhand over the past 24 hours, while the Yamunotri Dham Yatra continued to remain affected due to the closure of a stretch of the Yamunotri highway near Sayana Chatti, officials said on Monday. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), 96 roads remained blocked across the state following rain-triggered landslides and debris. In Uttarkashi district, restoration work on the Yamunotri highway near Sayana Chatti continued for the fourth consecutive day after a major landslide triggered by incessant rainfall on July 9. Officials said intermittent showers and the constant risk of boulder falls have slowed the clearance operation. The irrigation department is simultaneously clearing debris, creating alternative access routes and carrying out channelisation of the Yamuna river to prevent the formation of a temporary lake upstream. Meanwhile, another stretch of the Yamunotri highway near Jungle Chatti, which had also been blocked by debris, was reopened for vehicular traffic after restoration work was completed, district disaster management officials said. To address waterlogging in the Dharali area, the Uttarkashi district administration launched a special drive to clear blocked culverts on the directions of District Magistrate Prashant Arya. Teams from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), supported by heavy machinery, have been deployed since Sunday evening to restore drainage and remove accumulated debris. "The administration is maintaining continuous oversight of the site to prevent any disruption to traffic. Our priority is to restore drainage systems and ensure that transport routes remain functional," Arya said.
