Health dept suspends Madhepura CMO
PATNA, Sept. 19 -- Bihar's health department has suspended Madhepura civil surgeon-cum-chief medical officer Dr Vijay Kumar with immediate effect, over allegations of abuse of power, the department said in a press release on Friday. The action follows a probe report into charges of misconduct and unauthorised financial transactions, the department said.
Dr Kumar allegedly reopened a file to get Satyam Emergency Hospital, a facility previously sealed, back in operation. He allegedly received unauthorised money for the move, according to the report submitted by Madhepura's district magistrate to Bihar's health secretary.
A separate matter surfaced through a viral video, purportedly showing illegal money changing hands over inspections and licensing of private nursing homes.
A committee headed by Madhepura's district land acquisition officer was formed to investigate the charges. Its report found Dr Kumar's conduct prima facie corrupt, the statement said. Acting on the findings, the health department invoked provisions of the Bihar Government Servants (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 2005, to suspend the doctor.
