Bihar nets investment proposals worth Rs.2Lcr
PATNA, Nov. 5 -- Bihar has received investment proposals worth around Rs.2 lakh crore, and the state government plans to make 20,000 acres of land available for industrial projects in the next few months, chief minister Samrat Choudhary said on Wednesday, according to a press release issued by the chief minister's office.
Addressing representatives of the Bihar Foundation from India and abroad, Choudhary said the government was working to strengthen the state's industrial ecosystem and create new employment opportunities. He urged the diaspora to leverage their knowledge, skills, experience and resources to accelerate Bihar's development.
The chief minister launched the newly developed Bihar Foundation website and the Bihar Business Connect 2027 portal at the 'Samvad' auditorium in the chief minister's secretariat. He also launched the 'Bihar Hai Taiyar (Bihar Is Ready)' campaign. Representatives from all 55 chapters of the Bihar Foundation, including 31 international and 24 national chapters, joined the programme through video conferencing.
Choudhary urged non-resident Biharis to participate in Business Connect 2027 and connect industrialists and investors in their respective countries and regions with investment opportunities in Bihar. He said their professional networks and experience could help attract industries and generate jobs in the state, the release said.
Describing Biharis living across the world as brand ambassadors of the state, Choudhary said the Bihar Foundation was established to connect people of Bihari origin with their roots and harness their expertise, skills and resources for the state's development.
Its activities are based on three pillars - bonding, branding and business. Besides strengthening cultural links with the diaspora, the foundation has been working to establish Bihar's positive image globally, he said.
The chief minister said the government would work to expand the foundation's network further. He also invited its members to contribute to Bihar's economic, social and cultural progress.
Highlighting the state's infrastructure development, Choudhary said a dry port had become operational at Bihta. Efforts were also underway to increase international flight connectivity from Patna, Darbhanga and Gaya. The government had introduced a sand policy to address issues related to sand availability and river management, he said.
He added that ministers and officials would visit different countries to explore technology, investment and development opportunities that could be brought to Bihar.
The state was also working on township development to create new sources of revenue, while promoting ecotourism and developing projects through the public-private partnership (PPP) model. New industrial policies had been introduced to encourage investment, he said. The chief minister also announced plans to organise a seminar bringing together doctors of Bihari origin on a common platform.
Choudhary said the government was open to exploring joint ventures with industries abroad that need skilled manpower. Such arrangements could help provide better employment opportunities to skilled youth from Bihar, he added.
He said the efforts of former chief minister Nitish Kumar to address the state's basic infrastructure needs had been further accelerated under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. Bihar was now moving rapidly on the development path, he added.
Deputy chief minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, industries minister Shreyasi Singh and chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit also addressed the programme.
