2 from Bihar arrested for duping passengers
Haridwar, March 9 -- The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Haridwar has arrested two men from Bihar for allegedly duping railway passengers by promising to get their train tickets confirmed, a senior police officer said on Sunday.
Superintendent of GRP Haridwar, Aruna Bharati, said the arrests were made following a complaint lodged on January 24 by Manoj Kumar, a resident of Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh.
According to Bharati, the complainant alleged that two unknown men approached him at the railway station and offered to help him confirm a railway ticket from Haridwar to Ayodhya, claiming that a travelling ticket examiner (TTE) was their maternal uncle.
"The accused gained the complainant's confidence by speaking in the local dialect. They took his Aadhaar card and ATM details including the password and secretly withdrew Rs.60,500 from his bank account through UPI," she said.
Using technical analysis, CCTV footage and mobile surveillance, the investigating team traced the location of the suspects to Sirsiya Bazaar in Sitamarhi district of Bihar.
GRP station in-charge Haridwar, Bipin Chandra Pathak, said the police arrested Rajesh Kumar, 31, and Vipin Kumar, 31, both residents of Sirsiya Bazaar, on March 6. They were brought to Haridwar on transit remand.
"The accused were produced before the court and have been sent to judicial custody. A case under BNS Section 303 (theft) and 318(4) (cheating) has been registered against them," said Pathak. Police said further investigation is underway....
