Yellow alert for heat till Sunday
MUMBAI, May 9 -- On Friday, the city, which has been on yellow alert (indicating hot and humid conditions) for the last three days, recorded above-normal temperatures in the suburbs.
At Santacruz, the city's base weather station, the India Meteorological Department recorded a maximum temperature of 35.5 degree Celsius, 1.9 degrees above normal. Many parts of the city logged even higher temperatures. The night time maximum temperature was also high: 28.1 degrees Celsius or 1.7 degrees above normal.
South Mumbai was normal, with Colaba recording a maximum of 34.4 degrees during the day and 27.5 degrees at night. The yellow alert for the suburbs will continue on Saturday-Sunday, with the maximum temperature likely to touch 36 degrees and 35 degrees respectively....
