Tipra Motha wins 24 seats in TTAADC polls
AGARTALA, April 18 -- The TIPRA Motha Party (TMP) on Friday recorded a landslide victory in the Tripural Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, meanwhile reducing the BJP's share in the council by half from its previous tally. According to the state election commission (SEC), TMP secured 24 out of 28 seats in the autonomous district council and the BJP could only win four seats.
The TTAADC went to polls on April 12, which recorded over 83% voter turnout.
Like the previous TTAADC poll, the BJP's another alliance partner Indigenous People's Front of Tripura ( IPFT) and oppositions including Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Congress failed to secure a single seat, according to SEC.
The landslide victory saw a higher vote share and significant winning margins in many seats though these finer details are still being compiled by the commission. Despite being in alliance, the BJP and the TIPRA Motha parties contested against each other in the TTAADC polls. IPFT and oppositions CPI(M) and Congress also contested independently in the poll.
In the last TTAADC polls in 2021, TIPRA Motha bagged 18 seats leaving 9 seats for the BJP, and one seat was secured by an independent candidate. Later, the BJP lost one member of the autonomous district council after he switched over to TMP.
Chief minister Manik Saha congratulated TMP for its victory. "I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the BJP karyakartas in the ADC elections for their courage, hard work and dedication. Congratulations to all the winners, and warm wishes to the Tipra Motha Party on their success. While we accept the people's mandate with humility, we see this as an opportunity to come back stronger..." he said....
