Thane CP summoned over drunk cop clip
Mumbai, June 5 -- Calling it a "violation of human rights", the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) on Thursday took suo motu action over a video of an allegedly drunk policeman in Thane and summoned the Thane Police Commissioner (CP).
The summons issued by commission chairperson AM Badar said the commission had taken suo motu cognisance of the video on June 1 and summoned the senior police official "for having failed to take necessary action in respect of its grievance". It asked the police commissioner to be present before the commission on August 4 and submit a response in writing.
On June 1, the commission took cognisance of the video circulating on YouTube titled 'Police mahashay on duty daru piyun fakaat - karvayi honar ka? (Policeman drunk on the job - Will there be any action)?'
The MSHRC took suo motu action following the directions of the chairperson "considering gravity of the reported news". In his notings, the registrar of the commission wrote, "Perused and seen. Case of violation of human rights. Call report from concerned SP/CP in 8 weeks."
The video, posted on YouTube channel Shahaanpana_in on November 6, 2025, has garnered 1.8 million views. In the video, residents of Thane are seen confronting an allegedly drunk policeman mounting his motorcycle. An altercation between residents and the policeman follows in which a resident tells the policeman he will show him the "power of social media". Another resident is seen accusing cops of accepting bribes from street vendors in Thane's Tembhi Naka....
