Patna, Sept. 13 -- Tension prevailed in Bihar's Sitamarhi district on Saturday after Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) district vice-president Vaidyanath Mahato was shot dead by four bike-borne unidentified men around 6am when he was out for a walk, officials aware of the matter said. The incident, which took place in Ketharia-Rampatti village, triggered protests. A senior officer said, "The crowd pelted stones at officers, injuring at least one inspector. Several police vehicles were vandalised, with their windows smashed and one vehicle overturned. Locals also set fire to the house of a man they identified as the prime accused, Tribhuwan Kushwaha alias Ajaz."
