Mumbai, Aug. 8 -- A reported snake sighting inside a women's coach sparked panic aboard a suburban train on Friday morning, prompting passengers to pull the emergency chain and bringing the train to a standstill at Thane station for 12 minutes. Central Railway staff later searched the coach but found no snake. The incident took place around 9.14am after the up local departed from Platform 4 at Thane station. As word of the alleged sighting spread, passengers activated the Alarm Chain Pulling (ACP) system, forcing the train to halt. Following the commotion, Railway personnel inspected the coach before clearing the train to leave at 9.26am. "The local remained stationed at Thane from 9.14 am to 9.26 am while railway staff carried out an inspection of the coach. After the inspection was completed, the train was cleared to resume its journey," said a Central Railway official. The incident affected operations on the Up slow line, delaying five suburban services during the morning rush hour and caused inconvenience to the commuters....
