mumbai sweats through third straight day of 37degC heat
Mumbai, Oct. 11 -- The city continued to swelter for the third consecutive day on Saturday, with the Santacruz observatory recording a maximum temperature of 37.4degC, which was 4.3 degrees above normal. The morning was warmer than usual too, with the minimum temperature settling at 26degC, 1.1 degrees above normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
South Mumbai, however, was spared the heatwave conditions forecast by the weather bureau. Colaba recorded a maximum temperature of 35.6degC, three degrees above normal and below the forecast of 37degC.
The minimum temperature there was 27.5degC at 5.30am, 2.1 degrees above normal.
According to the India Meteorological Department, humidity remained higher in south Mumbai than in the suburbs.
Colaba recorded 83% humidity in the morning, which fell to 70% by evening. In Santacruz, humidity dropped from 68% to 52% as warm, dry winds prevailed.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast dense fog in Santacruz on Sunday, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 36degC. Colaba is likely to record a maximum of 35degC, accompanied by hot and humid conditions....
