New Delhi, Aug. 11 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated India's Commonwealth Games contingent, congratulating them for the medal haul in Glasgow and calling them an inspiration for the new generation. He had a candid conversation with the athletes and shared some lighter moments as well. PM Modi hosted a reception for the medal winners on Sunday. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Sports Raksha Khadse and Indian Olympic Association chief PT Usha were also present. "I have been staying here for 12-13 years. If I have regularly met anyone, received anyone, it is our athletes. You have consistently made India proud at the international level with your courage and determination. You have been achieving new heights. Your medals will inspire our children," Modi told the CWG medallists. Conversing with Mirabai Chanu, who won a record third CWG gold, Modi said, "You were in tears on the podium and it felt as if with every drop, a gold medal was dripping." To this, Chanu replied, "Sir, I was very happy that day. I was crying because I could not win a medal at the Paris Olympics -- I fell behind by just one kg. As an athlete, you go through so much. In these four years, I faced so many injuries, then there were family problems, so it has been a very difficult period. So when I stood on the podium and saw the Tricolour going up and heard the National Anthem, I just could not stop myself. Tears kept flowing," said Chanu, the Tokyo Olympics silver medallist. To shot putter Sharmila Dhankar, who became the first Indian para athlete to win gold at the CWG, Modi said, "Last time, you promised me that both your daughters would become sportspersons?" "Yes, they are still young, but in the next CWG I will show you three medals from one house," was Sharmila's prompt reply....
