MCA to send men's team to tour of England for player development
Mumbai, June 17 -- The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Tuesday announced a tour to the United Kingdom for its men's team, scheduled from June 20 to July 15. The tour is meant as a high-performance development initiative for emerging players, who will gain overseas exposure through their matches in English conditions.
The tour includes three two-day matches and several one-day fixtures against second XI teams, national county representative sides and professional outfits associated with Sussex, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Gloucestershire and Derbyshire.
Additionally, former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar will meet the squad for select matches during the tour.
Top two seeds Harshit Mahimkar and Akshat Raisurana cruised into the Boys' U-19 singles quarter-finals of the CCI Yonex Sunrise Mumbai District Badminton Championship on Tuesday.
Top seed Harshit cruised past Diyaan Zaveri with a 15-1, 15-4 win, while Akshat dropped just one point as he outplayed Advait Chaugule 15-0, 15-1 to move to the quarter-final.
IM Soham Kamotra caused a flutter at the 360 ONE Global Chess Festival halting Iniyan Pa's winning streak in the sixth round of the Master's section.
Iniyan had won each of his first five games and looked set to score his sixth successive victory in the early stages of his game but lost way and had to settle for a draw against Kamotra.
Iniyan, with 5.5 points, holds onto a slender half point lead over second-placed Aakashchandra Dalvi, while Kamotra, Ayush Sharma and Harsh Suresh are bunched behind with 4.5 points each....
