MCA to name Wankhede stand in honour of former captain Shastri
Mumbai, Feb. 28 -- The Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) Apex Council has decided to honour former India captain Ravi Shastri by naming a stand after him at the Wankhede Stadium.
The decision to name the Level 1 stand below the press box after Shastri was made in a meeting held on Friday.
Shastri, who represented Mumbai in domestic cricket and played 80 Tests and 150 ODIs for the national team - he was also a part of the 1983 World Cup-winning team - is also a former head coach of the Indian team.
Along with honouring Shastri, the Apex Council also approved the naming of three gates at the Wankhede Stadium after former India and Mumbai stalwarts Dilip Sardesai, Eknath Solkar and Diana Edulji.
India players Shreyas Iyer and Rahul Tripathi's efforts for BPCL went in vain as they lost by two wickets to Income Tax in the DY Patil T20 Cup in Navi Mumbai.
In the other match held on Friday, Kunal Singh Rathore hit an unbeaten 93 to guide Nirlon to 227/6, before the team bowled out Indian Navy to pick up a 105-run win.
Brief scores: BPCL 151/8 (Rahul Tripathi 48, Shreyas Iyer 32; Saurabh Dubey 4/26) lost to Income Tax 152/8 (Anuj Rawat 32, Harvik Desai 30). Nirlon 227/6 (Kunal Singh Rathore 93*, Amogh Bhatkal 44, Saurabh Singh 41) bt Indian Navy 122 (Nakul Sharma 40*, Shubham Rohilla 29; Varun Rao 4/22).
Manas Dhamne, the last Indian player left in the singles draw, lost in the quarter-final of the PMRDA Maha Open ATP Challenger 75 on Friday.
Playing against former world No.105 Duje Ajdukovic of Croatia, the 18-year-old from Satara lost 6-3, 6-7 (8), 6-4.
Earlier in the tournament, India No.1 Sumit Nagal lost in the second round to British player Felix Gill, while Karan Singh and Aditya Vishal Balsekar lost in the first round....
