Mamata moves hc challenging poll result in bhabanipur seat
Kolkata, June 17 -- Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday filed an election petition before the Calcutta High Court, challenging the poll result in Bhabanipur assembly seat, which she lost to BJP's Suvendu Adhikari, who later became West Bengal's chief minister.
"Ask Kalyan Banerjee," the TMC chief told reporters when she left the court, referring to the party MP and senior lawyer who will represent her in the court.
"Mamata Banerjee came to court to challenge the entire Bhabanipur election process," Kalyan Banerjee told the reporters. "There is reasonable evidence of bias in the process. For example, the chief electoral officer (Manoj Kumar Agarwal) became the chief secretary after the elections. Whoever helped was rewarded by Suvendu Adhikari."
The poll loss on May 4 was the second time Mamata Banerjee was defeated by Adhikari in five years. She lost to Adhikari from the Nandigram seat in 2021 by 1,956 votes.
BJP leader and state's parliamentary affairs minister Shankar Ghosh said, "She challenged the 2021 Nandigram results as well and moved court. Now that her party is facing oblivion, let her make another futile attempt."
