Kolkata stir turns violent as protesters, police clash
Kolkata, May 18 -- At least three police personnel were injured and several vehicles damaged after a protest against an anti-encroachment demolition drive, restrictions on prayers on public roads and the use of microphones at mosques turned violent at the busy Park Circus intersection in Kolkata.
The Kolkata Police conducted a flag march in the area after the clashes. Former chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said the unrest was reflective of a government "more obsessed with optics than humanity".
