India, B'desh border forces talks from today
New Delhi, June 8 -- A 15-member delegation from Bangladesh will arrive in New Delhi on Monday for the four-day director general-level talks between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), officials aware of the matter said.
The meeting between the chiefs of the two forces is being held against the backdrop of a standoff between the BSF and BGB at several locations along the Indo-Bangladesh border, especially in West Bengal, where BGB personnel refused to take back infiltrators who entered India illegally. Over the last few days, the two forces held flag meetings at the company commander level in several places to resolve the issue of the BGB refusing to accept infiltrators.
A BSF statement on June 3 said that the talks will focus on preventing assaults on BSF personnel and Indian civilians by Bangladesh nationals, curbing trans-border crimes, preventing the entry of Bangladeshi criminals into India, incidents of fence breaching by Bangladesh nationals, and issues related to border fencing and infrastructure. The two sides will also deliberate on action against Indian Insurgent Groups (IIGs) in Bangladesh, confidence-building measures and other matters concerning border management, it added.

Their 15-member delegation arriving on Monday will include officials from the Prime Minister's Office, Foreign Affairs, Shipping Ministry, Joint Rivers Commission among other departments.Bangladeshi citizens trying to prevent fencing construction at some places in Bengal, where work resumed last month, will also be discussed," said an official aware of the matter.
The biannual meeting starting Monday is also the first since the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in West Bengal. After the BJP came to power in Bengal, border fencing work at several places in the state that was stalled for over a decade, has resumed; infiltrators are being detected and sent back legally, and holding centres have been established to detain illegal infiltrators before their return. Curbing infiltration and border fencing was one of the primary pitches of the BJP on its way to power for the first time in Bengal.
The BSF side will be led by Director General Praveen Kumar, while the Bangladesh delegation will be headed by Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Director General of BGB.
The external affairs ministry said last month that India has asked Bangladesh to verify the nationality of more than 2,860 suspected Bangladeshis illegally living in the country. The BJP governments in the border states of Tripura, West Bengal and Assam have listed tackling undocumented migration as a priority....
