MUMBAI, July 15 -- The licence of the iconic Ghetto Restaurant and Bar on Bhulabhai Desai Road has been suspended for 15 days following an order issued by Mumbai City district collector Aanchal Goyal on July 7 for alleged violations of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949, and the Mumbai Foreign Liquor Rules. According to the order, a surprise inspection conducted by the state excise department's C-2 division on March 4 found that some customers were being served liquor without valid consumption permits. The inspection also found alterations between the originally sanctioned layout and the actual premises as well as discrepancies between the physical stock of liquor and the stock recorded in the establishment's books, it was found that physical stock of liquor was short. The order states that the licensee had failed to demonstrate "seriousness towards compliance with government rules and licence conditions". When contacted, Ghetto manager Ravi Shetty said the matter was "sub-judice" and under appeal, and declined to say anything further....
