ED summons Abhishek Banerjee in PMLA case
New Delhi, June 4 -- The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday served summons to Trinamool Congress' (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, asking him to appear before it on June 15 in connection with its money laundering probe in the primary teachers' recruitment scam in West Bengal, people familiar with the matter said.
The summons were delivered at Banerjee's Kalighat area residence. Officials said that the leader has been asked to appear at its Kolkata zonal office.
ED's PMLA probe in the matter, ongoing since 2022, is based on Central bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR pertaining to illegal appointment of primary teachers, offering appointment to the undeserving, non-listed and below ranked candidates and depriving the deserving and genuine candidates without maintaining fairness, in criminal conspiracy with each other by flouting the relevant rules.
The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday directed the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) to serve fresh notice to Abhishek Banerjee's family member and Leaps and Bounds company regarding the legality of a building's construction in the city's Kalighat area. Maintaining that the notices served by the KMC were incomplete, a vacation bench of Justice Smita Das De directed the KMC to send fresh notices clarifying which portions of the building are not in consonance with the law....
