Court nod for lie-detector test in Ghosalkar murder case
MUMBAI, June 18 -- A special court on Wednesday permitted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a polygraph or lie-detector test on two suspect-witnesses in the murder of former Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar - his acquaintance Ryan Gore and Mehul Parekh, a staffer at the office of businessman Mauris Noronha, where he was killed.
Additional sessions judge Ajit A Yadav, however, rejected the agency's request to conduct the test on Noronha's bodyguard Amarendra Kumar Mishra, who had refused consent, citing the Supreme Court's ruling in Selvi v State of Karnataka.
Ghosalkar was shot dead during a Facebook Live session at the office of Noronha on February 8, 2024. Noronha, who was seen opening fire on the Sena (UBT) leader during the live stream, later died from a gunshot wound from the same weapon.
In September 2024, the High Court transferred the probe from the crime branch to the CBI, saying "the mystery surrounding the death of deceased-Abhishek continues" and "some vital aspects which ought to have been investigated have not been investigated"....
