CONGRESS NAMES Hockey Legend, MLA Pargat Singh AS PUNJAB Chief
Chandigarh, Oct. 3 -- The Congress on Friday appointed former hockey captain and MLA Pargat Singh as its Punjab president after Amarinder Singh Raja Warring resigned from the post amid signs of infighting in the state unit, months ahead of state elections.
Warring had earlier in the day met party leader Rahul Gandhi and formally submitted his resignation. The departing Warring called the change a victory for his main rival in the party, Charanjit Singh Channi.
Pargat Singh is a former Indian hockey captain who led the team in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics. He made his political entry with the Shiromani Akali Dal, but later switched to the Congress. He became an MLA from Jalandhar Cantonment in 2017.P10...
