Mumbai, Sept. 30 -- Mumbai witnessed rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow nowcast warning for the city in the evening. In its 7pm warning, the IMD said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light rain and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph were likely at isolated places in Mumbai. The warning came after a largely dry spell in the city. The city recorded a maximum temperature of around 32degC and a minimum of 27degC on Tuesday. The IMD's daily forecast had predicted partly cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. Similar conditions, with thunderstorms and lightning, are likely on Wednesday. "Today's thunderstorm activity is part of the monsoon withdrawal process. This is common during withdrawal and is likely to continue over the next two to three days. We expect the monsoon to withdraw from Mumbai by October 5," said Bikram Singh of IMD Mumbai. Meanwhile, metal barricading installed alongside Ambedkar Maidan in Motilal Nagar No. 1 collapsed due to the heavy rains, causing damage to vehicles. No injuries or loss of life were reported The rain also disrupted flight operations at the airport. Eleven incoming flights to Mumbai were diverted to Ahmedabad, Ozar, Surat and Badodara on Tuesday evening as heavy rain reduced visibility. Sources said the flights belonged to Indigo, Air India and Akasa.One Ahmedabad Mumbai flight was diverted to Navi Mumbai and then taken to Mumbai afterwards, said sources at NMIA.
