bmc receives 221 tree and branch fall complaints
Mumbai, July 7 -- The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday received 221 complaints of fallen trees and branches, including 74 from the city, 68 from the eastern suburbs and 79 from the western suburbs.
A tragedy was averted on Monday morning after a massive tree collapsed outside the main entrance of JB Vachha School at Five Gardens in Dadar. The incident occurred around the time students would ordinarily have been arriving for classes. However, a holiday declared a day earlier ensured that the campus was empty.
Tree-fall incidents were also reported from the Willingdon Club in Mahalaxmi and parts of Mulund.
The civic body's monsoon report recorded 523 complaints of fallen trees and branches over 24 hours.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, "Nearly 300 trees fell in a single day, close to the number that falls during the four-month monsoon season."...
