BMC completes repair work on pipeline in Thane
Mumbai, Aug. 16 -- The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) completed repair work on the 3,000-mm-diameter water pipeline near Teen Hath Naka in Thane at 5pm on Saturday.
A leakage in the pipeline was detected on Thursday night, but workers found it difficult to access the damaged portion as a significant amount of monsoon water had accumulated around the site, BMC officials said.
Pumps were deployed continuously to drain the accumulated water and keep the worksite accessible and a mild steel plate was welded over the damaged section to plug the leak. On Saturday, another leakage was detected in the pipeline which was fixed by the evening, officials said.
According to the civic body, the pipeline will be charged from 9pm on Saturday, following which water supply to the city and the eastern suburbs will be restored gradually....
