Mumbai, Sept. 12 -- The Bombay High Court has refused to discharge businessman Gautam Khanduja in the 2004 abetment-to-suicide case involving model and 1997 Miss India winner Nafisa Joseph, saying there were sufficient grounds for the case to proceed. Justice MM Sathaye rejected Khanduja's plea on Thursday, observing that whether the allegations amounted to abetment could be determined only at trial. Khanduja, 54, began dating Joseph, then 24, in 2003, and they got engaged in May 2004. Police alleged he had told Joseph that he had divorced his wife, Naushin Khan. After his mother allegedly revealed otherwise, Joseph demanded the divorce decree, which Khanduja refused to show. He later called off the wedding, citing her short temper.
