8-year-old leopard dies of kidney, liver ailments at SGNP
MUMBAI, May 19 -- Surya, an eight-year-old male leopard housed at Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), died on Sunday after battling severe kidney and liver ailments, according to officials.
This is the second leopard death linked to health complications at SGNP this year.
Surya had been undergoing treatment for chronic renal and hepatic compromise after falling ill on May 14.
The leopard was brought to SGNP from the Ahilyanagar Forest Division in 2018 as a two-month-old cub and was hand-reared at the park.
According to SGNP officials, Surya's condition deteriorated despite medical treatment and supportive care.
In a statement, the park administration said wild animals often show very few visible symptoms until diseases reach an advanced stage.
SGNP currently houses 22 leopards, 12 tigers and eight lions....
