20-yr-old held for strangling wife to death in Jogeshwari
MUMBAI, July 22 -- A 20-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly strangling his wife to death at their rented home in Jogeshwari West after suspecting she was still in touch with her first husband. Police said the accused initially tried to pass off the death as a suicide, but the post-mortem examination pointed to murder.
The accused, identified as Seraj Ansari, and his wife Shabarunnisa Ansari had been married for around six months.
According to the Oshiwara police, Ansari allegedly suspected that his wife continued to speak to her first husband over the phone. An argument over the issue allegedly broke out on Saturday, during which Ansari got angry and allegedly used a rope to strangle his wife to death.
Police initially treated the case as a suspected suicide. However, the post-mortem examination revealed injuries around her neck, suggesting death by strangulation, prompting police to question her husband. During interrogation, Ansari allegedly confessed to the crime, police said.
Based on his statement and other evidence, the Oshiwara police registered a case of murder and arrested him. HTC...
